Tuesday PM

Becca had a great day! She stood for the first time today. It was assisted, but she was able to stand on her legs. She couldn’t really feel her legs as they were in ‘space,’ but her body supported her.

She was also able to sit today for 90 minutes!

Becca also had her stitches removed from her lower back today. It’s been a busy day. We also found out that until she can sit for the duration of the flight, we can’t use Angel Flight. We need an aircraft that will accommodate her lying down. Angel Flight can only fly those that can sit in a chair. The doctors said her organs (lungs, heart, etc) are capable for flight so they will clear her. So, if anyone out there has a contact that could help, let me know. We are planning for now to continue therapy here, perhaps even start the treatment, then move her when she can sit for a long period of time. I know there is an air ambulance type system, but it’s a bit more that we would ever look at based on her need, which is not critical believe it or not 🙂

We are going to continue to work her, but that’s nothing new to Becca. She is a determined girl, so look out!

Thank you all again for your kind words and encouragement. We love you all and can still feel your strength. There is no way we could do this alone 🙂

Tuesday

Becca is doing well this morning. They got her pain under control and she is getting a little better every day. She has more movement in her legs and feet and this morning she knows if her foot is up or down now.

I’m going to be honest with you all, I have a VERY difficult decision to make now. We need to figure out if we are going to move her. I have been struggling with this the past few days. I have been praying and reading the scriptures on this one. Our options are continue with the doctors here, or move her to Salt Lake to the Huntsman Cancer facility. The biggest thing we have learned is support is king and that’s what it will take to beat this. All of our family is in Utah and we would have a tremendous support system there. I also know that we have a HUGE support system here. The Huntsman center has also successfully treated this type of cancer where they have never seen this here. The hardest part is if we go, it will be for several months. We won’t move there, just live with family for a while. I suppose many that go through cancer treatment don’t have family close to a center and I feel lucky in that aspect. I know we at Southwest Airlines do a LOT with the Ronald McDonald house which helps family’s during treatments. We wouldn’t need that. But I’m gaining insight into how hard some of the decisions families need to make under such pressure. I need to get Ricky into school there, not to mention how do you pack for 3-4 months?

Bottom line, I know the Lord will protect us and is guiding us. We have had some things just laid out before us, like connections with Angel Flight (she has to fly in a private plane to Utah) and how this awesome organization helps families in need. Also the contacts with the Huntsman center and their willingness to help. I haven’t finalized this yet, but I wanted so share some of my thoughts as I go through one of the most difficult decisions to date.

Please keep praying for us, I know we will be guided by the Spirit and we will make the right decision for Becca and our family.

Monday Afternoon

Becca is in some pain today. The backed her off of most of her meds to try and figure out which one she is having a reaction to. She broke out in a rash the other day. She did sit in the wheelchair device for about an hour this morning, which is very good.

Some of you know we are trying to get a ‘second opinion’ from some other cancer hospitals to figure out what is going on. We don’t know if we will actually go anywhere yet, but we need to make sure they are doing everything they can to help her.

I’ll keep you informed on any change, we are just trying to make sure we have her in the right place.
